Earthen Rituals

Group Installation: Natural Materials Lab | Role: Facade Designer

As part of a group exhibition at the 2025 Venice Biennale Architettura, our installation featured an earthen structure made of 3D-printed bricks whose surface textures were informed by image compositing. My role was to design the facade of the bricks, focusing on developing the AI imagery pipeline that transformed reference photographs of vernacular practices such as cob, rammed earth, and wattle-and-daub into geometrically printable, culturally resonant surface textures. At each stage, I emphasized using AI not as a replacement for traditional craft knowledge, but as a way to extend it—curating outputs that could be translated into printable toolpaths while retaining the material logic of earthen building traditions. The project as a whole explored how emerging technologies can work with and amplify traditional construction knowledge, embedding stories of craft, environment, and community into architectural form.
